I'm a leaf on the wind...

Finally got around to seeing Serenity tonight. Good timing too, as
looking at the cinema schedules, tomorrow is the last day for it at all
the Derby and Burton cinemas...

I held back seeing the film until I'd seen all the series... and what
can I say... I really really enjoyed it. Joss Whedon made a great job
of making a film that stands alone, but being familiar with the series
made it even better, particularly as you are more attached to the
characters (he says, trying not to give any plot twists away).

Anyway, rumour has it that it's out on Region 1 DVD in December...

And for those of you wondering what the hell I'm talking about, it's
based on a series that got cancelled before the first series had
finished showing. The easy way to describe it, would be 'adventures of
a Han Solo-type captain and his crew, in a sort of space western'. But
it's far better than that description.

I'd say 'go see it', but it looks like I may bee a bit late.

so whats the film about buddy? i presume its a sci-fi? but you recommend it right? there hasnt been too many good films here in recent weeks, so its about time we get something good. cheers

Well it's set on the outskirts of human inhabited space, sort of like the wild west. There's The Alliance (sort of like The Empire) and they've been doing mind experiments to create human weapons, and the best one is called River. She gets broken out by her brother, and they wind up on Serenity. The crew of Serenity have no idea what she can do, but you can be sure that they'll find out before the film is over. The Alliance gives chase because they want her back... Oh yes, and there are space cannibal rapists too. And no aliens.
I'm not selling it very well here am I?
It's really good. Laugh out loud funny in places too - it has some great dialogue...

Good-Oh: I wondered how River was going to end up. The trailer made it look like she was going to go all unrealistic and Matrix type.
Fox really cocked up: Firefly, the series, never took off after the pilot episodes. Shame really Nathan Fillion deserved more
PS u 4got 2 mention the 'companions' ie respected hookers, and the whole back plot behind Cptn Mal's loss of faith in God...when he was in the Browncoats fighting agaisnt the formation of the Alliance

I didn't mention those because they don't play that much part in the film... war and faith do get mentioned, but only in passing. And I can't remember there being a single mention of what Inara actually does - it's only a two hour film, so some of the characters don't really get that much screentime compared to the series...

I want to see it - though I don't think I'll get a chance to see the series first. Hopefully it will be around for a little while longer in olde londone towne.

It does actually stand alone as a film, you don't need to have seen the series, it just helps that you have more background as to their motivations etc

(27.10.05 17:06)
slower than expected, but it was still enjoyable.

(27.10.05 17:27)
Now then, do u thnk josh whedon will actually get firfly signed?

(28.10.05 12:05)
I thought Fox put some sort of legal restriction in place meaning he couldn't do another series until 2012 or something like that...

That's just purely mental. Wish the huge amount of crap in this world could be separated from the sensible ideas thus making everyines lives better
