Duty calls...

I have been tagged by my brother so I suppose I ought to cough up some quasi-interesting facts about myself that you don't already know.

1. I was born a whopping 11 weeks early and weighed about three pounds.

2. I met Prince Charles when I was about 8. I told him I was having jam sandwiches for tea. It was surely the highlight of his day.

3. Age 13 or so, following some scrape or other, I needed a head x-ray. After said x-ray, the doctor was heard to comment "My word, you do have rather a large cranium, don't you"

4. When I was 15, shortly after telling my mum I wanted a moped, because I was responsible and sensible on the roads, etc, etc, I cycled into the back of a parked car. I swear I can still see car paint in the crack in my tooth. And root canal work is no fun AT ALL. And I never got that moped.

5. Both of my big toes have this many toenails each:- None at all.

6. My wife's cousin was once World Snooker Champion. (OK that's not technically about me, but I'm clutching at straws now). He's 9th now, so still not too bad. Hasn't sent any money our way though.

I gather I'm supposed to tag others now, but I'm fairly sure everyone else has already done it...

If not, I tag Sez... and, er, anyone else reading this who hasn't done it.

What a great naame

So the replacement for the PS2 will be called the PS3. How original.

And the Xbox replacement is the Xbox 360. (Can't call it '2' because that's less than 3, and we can't make ourselves look inferior to Sony, now, can we?)

And Nintendo's Gamecube replacement will be called Revolution. Cool name, no?

I knew it was too good to be true... They have today announced that the new console will NOT be called Revolution, as they themselves, and anyone interested have been calling it for the past six months.

It is, in fact, going to be called...

Click the link if you don;t believe me. Wii. Pronounced "Wee".

No jokes to be had there AT ALL.

*shakes head*

I know the name of the things isn't THAT important in the grand scheme of things, but Wii? What was wrong with Revolution? At least ONE console could have had a half-decent name!

PS Actually, it's growing on me already... but I already feel sorry for every spotty game store oik having to put up with countless schoolboy toilet humour "jokes" every time someone tells them they "really need a wii" etc etc...

Demolition Derby, part 2

Further to this post yesterday about my being erased from history... here's a photo of my old college I snapped on the way home last night...

Sniff.

PS The scenes of devastation didn't really come out as planned. But there's lots of rubble there. Honest. Oh well.

Do the Locomotion With Me-eeee....

Hurrah - it finally begins...

The first ever downloadable game demo for the PSP is out, and it's for the fantastic looking Loco Roco!

The only downside is that you need to make sure your PSP is upgraded to version 2.70, which unfortunately kills off your ability to play homebrew / emulators etc.

Decisions decisions - keep my SNES & Megadrive emulators (Sensible Soccer!), or play Loco Roco...

Mmmm... Loco Roco...

Slowly being erased from the pages of history

I don't consider myself "old" (although most of you would probably disagree), but I feel it this morning. Not just because I cycled to work for the first time in about 6 months, which ertainly didn't help...

But last time I cycled through Pride Park, Wilmorton College was still there... Now? A pile of rubble.

I spent a massive "one day a week" there on day release from my YTS in my formative years, so while I don't have a massive attachment to the place, it's sad to think there's somewhere from your past that you will never be able to visit again. Not that I ever would, but that's not the point.

Then I remember the actual place where I took my YTS - it was called ITeC and was part of the college at the top of Normanton Road. Several years ago it too was demolished, and remains an unused plot of land to this day...

That got me thinking... are the demolishers of Derby tracking my history, slowly erasing me from existence?

Surely not.

My first proper job was at Derby County Court on St Peter's Churchyard which... ah. It's gone.

Hmmm... Next stop M&S which... has moved. (well half-moved)

Still... at least Toyota is still there. But then again, when I was there, we did jokingly say "we'll give this place 5 years", about, ooh, four and a half years ago.

Sigh.

Hecticus Weekendicus

Hello peeps.

So... I broke up Thursday lunchtime, and have just returned to the drudgery that is office life.

"What have you been up to" I hear none of you ask in unison...

Friday was spent looking after Harriet, what with it being school holidays and that. Mrs K reminded me that she still had some homework to do, so being the devious soul that I am, I took Harriet to the video shop, rented out the game of her choice, and then told her she could play it when she'd finished her homework. Cruel, maybe, but it worked a treat!

Last week we had the house we've been renting out officially handover'd back to us at the end of its 5 year contract. It's been empty for about 2 years, so was absolutely filthy. But on the plus side the agents had redecorated and recarpeted several rooms, so I guess you take the rough with the smooth.

We had the estate agent round on Saturday, who gave us a very nice sounding valuation, and told us that it should sell really quickly. And, joy of joy, while we were there Harriet found a dead mouse... Nice. I resisted the urge to do a Jonathan Strange and put it in my mouth to see if I went mad*. Nice Estate Agent Lady said it might be a good ide to clear that up. Thanks chuck, I'd never have thought of that.

So we spent the whole of Sunday cleaning the house from top to bottom, and mouse disposal duties naturally fell to me. After taking about 10 minutes to steel my nerves ready for the pickng up thereof, I then dropped it, shrieked, and round and round the room like a girl. Ahem. What a wuss.

So all that's left is for me to pop round on Wednesday to vacuum & tidy, and then Nice Estate Agent Lady should turn up and take photos, sign contracts, etcetera, etcetera.

And then the big wait begins...

* I've just finished reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. It was a little uneven, but I quite enjoyed it.

Can I just say...

... I'm leaving work at lunchtime today?

What a shame that the timing of TNT coming to collect the faulty iPod coincides with a long weekend...

It's a tough life.
